  6.     The copy protection is a bit involved and hard to track down, so no tutorial.  Just the hex edit
  7. listed plus an optional edit to kill the intro movie.  You must copy the music files which adds 118 megs
  8. to the install.  However once you copy the music files and make the edit, you'll have a complete copy of
  9. the game on your hard drive that is fully playable without the CD rom in the drive.  After the install
  10. you'll have to copy over the required files to your hard drive.  To do that:

  12. Assumes: "x" is your CD rom drive letter & game installed to defualt of c:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 3000
  13.   Adjust game directory according to where you actually installed the game.

  15. COPY: x:\SC3\RES\SOUNDS\MUSIC
  16. TO  : c:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 3000\Game\Sound\
  17.  
  18. COPY: x:\SC3\RES\UI\SHARED\MOVIES
  19. TO  : c:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 3000\Game\Ui\Shared\

  21.     The actual steps to crack this game are as follows:

  23. 1.  Install the game
  24. 2.  Copy the "\Music" directory to your hard drive
  25. 3.  Copy the "\Movies" directory to your hard drive
  26. 4.  Make the following edits:
  27.  
  28. Edit sc3.exe
  29. =============================================
  30. Search for: E8 2A 1F 00 00  at offset  16,297
  31. Change to : B0 01 00 00 00
  32.  
  33. Optional: Kill the intro Movie - Skip step 3!
  34.  
  35. Search for: E8 18 00 00 00  at offset 446,082
  36. Change to : B0 00 00 00 00

  38.     If you make both edits and copy the music directory to the correct place, when you start up
  39. SimCity 3000 you'll go to the game intro logo then right into the game selection screen.  Nice and
  40. neat crack.  If you kill the intro and skip step 3, you'll be able to save slightly over 25 megs.
